Jo Ann Portell

Jo Ann Portell, born on May 11, 1944, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the age of 80, at her home in Cadet, Missouri. 

Jo Ann enjoyed working alongside her husband, Lynn, on their property. Together, they put in hard work to keep their land nicely manicured. She found joy in sitting on her front porch, watching the birds that visited her yard. Jo Ann loved to read and often spent time exploring different bookstores with her sisters. Her love for books was a cherished part of her life, bringing her happiness and comfort. As a devoted member of Happy Grove Church of God, Jo Ann loved the Lord and was a faithful Christian throughout her life.

She is survived by her six siblings: Janet Portell (husband, Gary), Sharon Minx (husband, Wayne), Jeffrey Emily (wife, Vickie), Scott Emily, Mark Emily (wife, Joyce), and Sydney Emily. Jo Ann also leaves behind a special niece, Angie McGoveran (husband, Jeff), and special nephews Matthew Singer and Floyd Portell (wife, Cindy). In addition, she is remembered by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Danny Portell, Nona Thebeau (husband, Rev. Lynn), and Peggy Turnbough (husband, Rev. Mark), along with many very special nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Hazel Emily; her beloved husband, Lynn Portell; and four siblings: Danny Emily, Terry Emily, Barbara Singer, and Gloria Price. She was also preceded by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd and Myrtle Portell; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Glenda Kay and Ronnie Harmon, Bonnie and Clifton Gibson and Debbie Holt; and special nephew, Brad Minx.

Jo Ann will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.

There will be no formal services for per Jo Ann's wishes. 

Jo Ann's arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
