Winona "Noma" Goodson

Winona Fay "Noma" Goodson, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, departed this life peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 83 years old. Noma was born on March 31, 1943, in Mineral Point, Missouri, to the late Joe Kean and Laura June (McGee) Kean. She attended Mineral Point School and possessed a lifelong love of learning. Later in life, she continued her education at Mineral Area College, believing that it was never too late to grow and learn.

On June 5, 1957, Noma married the love of her life, John E. Goodson. Together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage, building a home centered on love, faith, hard work, and family until John's passing. Their life together was filled with countless memories, especially time spent fishing, traveling, and enjoying one another's company.

Noma dedicated many years of her life to helping others. She retired from Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center, where she assisted individuals in earning their GEDs and finding employment. She also worked with COPEC, mentoring and encouraging young women as they pursued their education and careers. Her compassion, patience, and belief in the potential of others left a lasting impact on many lives.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures. Noma loved spending time fishing with John at Clearwater Lake, Truman Lake, Council Bluff Lake, and many other favorite spots. She cherished four-wheeler rides with the "Over the Hill Gang" and enjoyed crafting everything from dolls to clothing, drawing, and expressing her appreciation for art. A talented singer and musician, she loved singing, playing her guitar, and filling her home with music. She also enjoyed searching for treasures at thrift stores and yard sales, always delighted by a good bargain.

More than anything, Noma treasured her family. Sunday dinners at her home became a cherished tradition that brought loved ones together around her table. She was known for her warm heart, wonderful sense of humor, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. A faithful attendee of the Kingdom Hall, Noma found comfort and strength in her faith. She became well known for sharing her favorite Bible scriptures, carefully written on small cards that she lovingly handed out to family, friends, and even strangers as words of encouragement and hope.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of her family, including her four children: Sherry Watson and husband, Tim; Phyllis Cook; Rocky Goodson and wife, Mary; and Johnny Goodson and wife, Margie. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Randy Shepard, Kacie Shepard Rutledge, Christopher Cook, Dalton Goodson, Abigail Brunk, Roxanne Helms, Johnny Joe Goodson, Allen Goodson, Matthew Goodson, Logan Goodson, and Alana Goodson; six great-grandchildren: Willow, Finn, Emori, Jordan, James, and Raylan; three siblings: Floyd Kean and wife, Shirley; Rosemary Cain; and Roy Kean and wife, Mary; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Noma was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, John E. Goodson; her stepson, Dale Bowles; her son-in-law, Darrell Cook; two grandsons, Darrell Cook Jr. and Dylan Ray Goodson; two granddaughters, Amanda Ramsey and Emma Goodson; five siblings, Dorothy Adams, Laverna Drennen, Bobby Kean, Brenda Ames, and Betty Drennen; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Ella Goodson; and many other cherished family members.

Friends may join Noma's family for a time of visitation on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at DeClue Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the DeClue Chapel with Nathan Gore officiating. Interment will follow at Palmer Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, John.
