William Michael Thornton, known affectionately by his family as Mike, departed this life on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at his home, having reached the age of 74. He was born on December 1, 1951, in Farmington, Missouri, a son of the late Frank Thornton and Marcella (Johler) Thornton.
Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his family dearly. He was a caring and giving man who was always willing to lend a helping hand and make time for those he loved.
Mike had a passion for working on cars and dedicated 50 years of his life to working on trucks. Throughout his career, he became known as one of the greatest diesel mechanics. His knowledge, skill, and love for his work were a source of pride, and his dedication to the trade left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
When Mike wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was always ready for a family barbecue or a game of cards. Above all, Mike treasured the time he spent surrounded by the people he loved.
Those who remain to treasure his memory include his wife, Susan Thornton; his two children, Tisha Cole and fiancé Michael Gibson, and William Michael Thornton II; four grandchildren, Selena Cole, Shane Horn, Kane Cole, and Katie Cole; four great-grandchildren, Azlyn, Luca, Reina, and Ellie; three sisters, Barbara Richardson, Marlene Womack, and Faith Thornton; along with nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his grandson, Jacob Pierce; and three siblings, Sandra Dallas, Patrick Thornton, and Frank Thornton Jr.
Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on through his family, the many lives he touched, and the love he so freely gave.
A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at DeClue Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Cedar Falls Cemetery in Desloge, Missouri.
Funeral arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home – Potosi.
