Obituary

Richard Lee Wilson of Mineral Point, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Mercy Hospital South, having attained the age of 79 years. Richard was born on July 22, 1947, in Washington County, Missouri, a son to the late Elsworth “Chick” Wilson and Lora (Ferrell) Wilson.

On July 31, 1972, Richard was united in marriage to Barbara “Bobbi” Francis. Together, Richard and Bobbi shared 52 years of marriage and created many cherished memories with their family.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army from July 22, 1966, until July 25, 1969. He was honored to serve his country and carried that pride throughout his life. Richard was also proud of his education, having attended Southeast Missouri State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He later worked for many years at Red Wing Shoe Company, where he eventually retired.

In his leisure time, Richard enjoyed many things. He loved attending stock car races and was especially proud of racing his own modified stock car. He also enjoyed going to the casino and spending time on the golf course. In more recent years, Richard found enjoyment in watching YouTube videos and would often share the things he watched with his family with much enthusiasm. These simple moments of sharing and conversation were among the many ways Richard stayed connected to those he loved.

Richard will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his family, whom he loved so very much. Those who remain to treasure his memory include his three children, Shawn (Traci) Wilson, Terri (Jason) Sikes, and Scottie Wilson; five grandchildren, Ty Wilson, Alexander (Chad) Riggs, Hunter Wilson, Hailey Wilson, Pheabie Wilson, and Lyrick Wilson; three siblings, Mary Lou Marler, Eddie (Jeanette) Wilson, and Dennis (Jean) Wilson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara “Bobbi” Wilson; ten siblings, Homer Wilson, JoAnn Smith, Charlie Wilson, Billy Wilson, Sandy Wilson, Ronnie Wilson, Mike Wilson, Larry Wilson, Marie Barron, and Alice Boyster; as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and other family members.

A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of his funeral service at 2:00 p.m., at DeClue Funeral Home. Interment and final prayers will take place at Redbud Memorial Gardens. Richard will receive full military honors presented by the United States Army.

Funeral arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
