Phyllis Diane Kennedy, passed away peacefully at her home in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, on Friday, July 11, 2025 at the age of 68. Born on September 17, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri, Phyllis was the cherished daughter of the late Freeman Lefler and Beulah (Belfield) Lefler.
Phyllis grew up in the countryside as an only child, developing a strong sense of determination and a remarkable work ethic that would guide her through life. She dedicated many years of her life serving in the cafeteria at Valley Catholic School in Ste. Genevieve, where she was fondly remembered. Those who knew her often spoke of her as a wonderful mother and a devoted protector to her family.
On July 12, 1980, Phyllis married Charles "Charlie" Kennedy, and together they spent 45 beautiful years sharing life and love. Their journey included many cherished memories, from motorcycle rides through scenic country roads to nurturing her passion for gardening. Phyllis had a green thumb and was recognized as a master gardener, frequently winning the best gardener award at her local county fair exhibits. She also possessed an appreciation for muscle cars, particularly mustangs, proudly restoring a 1965 Mustang at a young age, showcasing her mechanical inclination.
Phyllis was a lifelong member of the Ste. Genevieve Ladies Auxiliary #2210. She enjoyed her eclectic collection of elephant figurines. Her vibrant personality resonated with those around her, and in reflection of the fun and easy-going person she was, the family invites those attending her services to dress comfortably and express their personalities.
She is survived by her husband Charlie Kennedy; her daughter Michelle Kennedy; her son Charlie Ogden and his wife Recey, along with their family; and honorary son Paul Filkins and his wife Jenny. Phyllis also leaves behind brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and dear cousins who will miss her dearly.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Freeman and Beulah Lefler; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, RL and Nellie Kennedy; and special aunts and uncles who preceded her in death.
