Obituary

Mary LaNora "Mayno" Wood, of Belgrade, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the age of 98, surrounded by the love of her family. Mayno was born on October 27, 1927, a daughter of the late Edward Talmage and Edna (Johnson) Talmage. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, servant's heart, and deep love for her family, church, and community.

On January 25, 1946, Mayno was united in marriage to the love of her life, Henry Harrel Wood. Together they shared many wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with three children.

At the age of ten, Mayno moved to Belleview, where she lived on a large family farm and learned the value of hard work from an early age. During her school years, she was honored as the Homecoming Queen of the Fall Festival in Ironton. She graduated from high school in 1945 before moving to St. Louis, where she began working in a factory. Shortly thereafter, she married Harrel, and together they made their home in St. Louis until May 27, 1957, when they moved to Belgrade. There, they proudly owned and operated Wood's Grocery Store for many years before retiring in 1980.

Mayno was a faithful member of Belgrade Methodist Church, where she joyfully served as the choir director for more than thirty years. Throughout the years, she also shared her beautiful voice by singing at countless weddings and funerals, alongside her dear friend, Selma Akers. She faithfully served as Secretary of the United Methodist Church Ladies Group, taught Sunday School, and treasured the fellowship she found with the church's quilt club.

Mayno enjoyed sewing and quilting, making countless quilts, Halloween costumes, clothing, and decorative wall hangings for her loved ones throughout the years. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and a past member of the Belgrade State Bank Gold Club. She enjoyed traveling to many places and visiting different countries with family and friends, creating treasured memories along the way. Mayno also dedicated her time to serving her community as a member of the Valley R-6 School Board. Among her many collections, she especially enjoyed collecting angel figurines and miniature shoe figurines.

Those who remain to cherish her memory include her children, Rebecca "Becky" Jenkins, Doug Wood, and Mary Diane Jenkins; her grandchildren, Sandi Hammons and husband Ron, Mandi Gabriele and husband Tom, Shanna Loughary and husband Cory, Jarrod Jenkins and wife Danielle, and Cody Jenkins; her great-grandchildren, Brooke, Brennan, Lucca, Mia Bella, Kiana and husband Justin, Keeton and wife Maliyah, Keller, Reghan, and Makenna; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Mayno is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harrel Wood; son-in-law, Jimmy Dale Jenkins; daughter-in-law, Tanya Wood; and her two siblings: Jay Talmage and Ann Slaughter.

Visitation for Mayno will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Belgrade Methodist Church, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Townsend officiating. Interment will take place in Belgrade Methodist Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
