June 23rd, 2023, is a special day for Mary Ann Horton as she was planning to celebrate with her High School sweet heart their 60th wedding anniversary. Mary Ann Evans and Charles Lytle Horton were Married on June 23rd, 1963, at the Bismarck United Methodist Church. Charles and Mary Ann had known each other from the age of 7, playing together when they would visit their grandparents in Bismarck who were neighbors.
Mary Ann grew up in the local Methodist churches of Bismarck, and Caledonia and grew in Faith throughout her life, participating in the same Youth Group as Charles as a kid, organizing Sunday school classes at their local church in California after they were married and supported charitable missions and ministries of the church as she grew older. Mary Ann enjoyed studying the bible and put those principles into action throughout her life.
Mary Ann always strove to lift others up and help them be in the best place to succeed. Her brother and sister tell a wonderful story about their Mary Ann tutoring the younger children in the one room -Sherlock elementary school near their home. As a mother, Mary Ann helped her son Michael overcome dyslexia, find care to manage his type 1 diabetes and secure a scholarship to college. Mary Ann was a devoted friend who was committed to maintaining her friendships throughout her life. That sense of connection was also central to her family life, Mary Ann, was devoted to staying in touch with the multiple generations of our family through cards and calls - acknowledging everyone’s milestones and helping to connect all the various family members together.
We will all deeply miss her as she has gone to heaven.
