Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kelly Negim Skaggs, a longtime resident and businessman of Potosi. Kelly passed away tragically at his home on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the age of 69.

Kelly was born on January 7, 1957, the son of the late Verdia Jane (Negim) Wren and Billy Junior Skaggs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Arlon Wren.

Kelly is lovingly remembered by his brother, Stephen Skaggs; his niece, Olivia Wells and her husband, Steven; and his three great-nephews, Dawson, Dallas, and Daxton, along with many extended family members, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.

Kelly was a 1975 graduate of Potosi High School. He served for some time as a Potosi City Police Officer. Kelly went on to pursue his passion for aviation by earning his commercial pilot's license from Parks College in Illinois. He enjoyed a successful career flying for TWA Airlines for many years as well as seeing the beautiful scenes of America while driving a truck over the road. Upon returning home, Kelly continued to invest in his community as a business partner alongside his mother and brother in the ownership of Bearfoot Plaza, where his commitment to Potosi was evident throughout the years.

Kelly embraced life with enthusiasm and enjoyed spending his free time fishing, golfing, traveling, and relaxing while watching his favorite television show, The Big Bang Theory. He also had a passion for cooking and loved trying new recipes, tending to his garden, and caring for his beloved dogs. A proud patriot, Kelly took a keen interest in politics and stayed well informed about current events and the future of America.

Above all, Kelly will be remembered for his generous spirit, his love for family, his dedication to his community, and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
