Joseph Herman Stamminger, born on October 28, 1939, passed away at the age of 85 on Monday, September 22, 2025. Joe was a first-generation American, with his parents coming from Austria. He grew up in St. Louis, where he attended school and graduated.
As a young boy, Joe worked at a local bowling alley, re-setting bowling pins. He briefly worked for General Motors on the assembly line before becoming an independent contractor delivering newspapers for the St. Louis Post Dispatch. Joe also owned apartments, showcasing his dedication and hard work throughout his life.
Joe had many hobbies and interests. He loved boating and canoeing and took pride in having built a cabin on his property at Jacktown. Joe had an appreciation for the outdoors, as he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing pool on Saturday nights. His vibrant orange 1977 Corvette was a point of pride for him.
Joe was a beloved father to three children: Julie Dorsey (husband, David), Joseph Stamminger Jr. (wife, Renee), and Jeffrey Stamminger (wife, Linda). He was also a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Ryan Dorsey, Marlena Outlaw, Pauline Eschbacher, Kristene Holmes, Richard Stamminger, Olivia Stamminger, and Hanna Sachs, as well as twelve great-grandchildren. Joe is survived by his sister, Barbara Meyerkord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Pauline Stamminger, as well as his grandson, Joseph H. Stamminger III, and longtime companion, Marion Miller.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Stamminger Family Cemetery in Potosi, Missouri. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
