George Edward Golden Sr. passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the age of 73, in Potosi, Missouri. Born on October 12, 1951, in Hematite, Missouri, George was a dedicated family man who cherished the time spent with his loved ones.
George had a strong work ethic and enjoyed a fulfilling career at Doe Run Company, where he ultimately retired from in 2013. Following his retirement, George went to work with his son in the logging industry and later worked for Chandler Sawmill. George was known for his commitment and reliability. He was a man that could not set still. He was always busy doing something. Outside of work, George found joy in various hobbies, including fishing and hunting, and was an avid fan of stock car racing and could often be found at the St. Francois County Raceway on Saturday nights.
He was educated at St. Joachim Catholic School in Old Mines through the 8th grade before transferring to Potosi High School, where he graduated. Throughout his life, George maintained many wonderful friendships.
George is survived by four children: George Golden (wife, Tracy), Willie Sansoucie (wife, Amy), Carl Dion Franks and friend Crystal Woods, and Paula Boyer (husband, Brian). He was a proud grandfather of 15 and a great-grandfather to 15, with whom he shared countless memories. He is also survived by three siblings: John Golden (wife, Vickie), Tom Golden (wife, Christina), and Mark Golden, as well as his lifelong friend, Joy Yarbrough; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma (Volner) Golden; his grandparents, Elmer and Susie Golden; and three siblings: Gary Golden, Ronnie Golden, and Christopher Golden.
The visitation for George is scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the DeClue Funeral Home. A funeral service will commence at 1:00 PM at the DeClue Memorial Chapel. Interment and final prayers will follow at the St. Joachim Catholic Cemetery in Old Mines.
George will be remembered fondly for his dedication to family, his hardworking nature, and his love for the outdoors. His legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. Funeral arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
