Elsie Bernice Hudson, affectionately known as Bernice, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Friday, August 29, 2025. Born on October 19, 1931, in Richwoods, Missouri, she was the cherished daughter of Amos and Sarah (Politte) Missey.
Throughout her life, Bernice was known for her vibrant spirit, captivating smile, and contagious laughter. She had a unique ability to bring joy to those around her, always full of life and enthusiasm. Her family meant the world to her, and she always looked forward to spending time with them.
Bernice had a diverse array of interests, with hobbies that included dancing and playing her guitar. She enjoyed dancing to the "Peppermint Twist," singing spirited songs such as "Shake Baby Shake," and more recently, "Take it to the Lord in Prayer." Her love for music and dance was a testament to her lively personality and zest for life.
One of Bernice's proudest accomplishments was the establishment of a residential care center known as Rose of Sharon, where she nurtured many individuals and provided a loving environment for those in need. Above all, Bernice was deeply grateful to have received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, a cornerstone of her faith that guided her through her life.
Bernice is survived by her beloved grandchildren: Hope Betts (husband, Shannon), Tracy Godat (husband, David), Megan Gajdosik, and Taylor Parmley (husband, Jonathan). She also leaves behind many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will carry her legacy forward.
In addition to her surviving family, Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Sarah Missey; two sons, Gary Gajdosik and Randy Hudson; five brothers, Francis, Lee, Roy, Clayton, and Stanley Missey; and three sisters, Thelma Turner, Leoma Coulter, and Dorothy Hayes.
A visitation honoring Bernice's life will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM at DeClue Funeral Home located at 301 East High Street, Potosi, MO 63664, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at the same location. Interment and final prayers will be held at Horine Cemetery, Richwoods, Missouri.
Bernice Hudson's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, forever remembered for her joyful spirit, loving nature, and the lasting impact she made on her family. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
