Delbert Linwood Griggs

Delbert Griggs, of Potosi, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the age of 91, at the home of his son, Terry Griggs, in Moberly, Missouri. He was born on September 11, 1933 in Potosi, Missouri, a son of the late Roy Lee Griggs and the late Grace (Evans) Griggs.

Delbert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Aileen Griggs, on July 4, 2025, and four siblings: Willard Griggs, Lloyd Griggs, LP Griggs, and Vivian Mouser.

Delbert’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his son, Terry Griggs; his cherished grandson, Connor Griggs; and his brother, Rolla Griggs (wife, Jeannie).

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Delbert served as a Combat Engineer during the Korean War, exemplifying dedication and resilience from an early age. After returning home, he began his career at Brown Shoe Factory before transitioning to St. Joe Lead (now Doe Run Company) to provide a better life for his family. Delbert retired at 78, having worked very hard throughout his life.

Delbert was master gardener and took immense pride in his yard, often seen mowing the grass or raking leaves in the heat of the day. He also cherished his strawberry patch, generously sharing with neighborhood children. Delbert had strong faith and was a member of Grassy Hollow Missionary Baptist Church. He was united in marriage to Shirley Aileen Berry on August 10, 1957, and together, they shared nearly 69 years of love and partnership. Delbert's legacy of hard work, devotion to his family, and deep faith will be remembered by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at DeClue Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the DeClue Memorial Chapel. Interment and final prayers will follow at Grassy Hollow Baptist Church.
