Charles William Medley

January 4, 1938 — August 1, 2025

Charles William Medley, affectionately known to all as Charlie, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 1, 2025 at the age of 87. Born on January 4, 1938, in Viburnum, Missouri, Charlie was a man of deep faith, quiet strength, and a heart full of kindness.

Charlie grew up in Davisville, Missouri, just next to Lookout Assembly of God, where he began attending church as a young boy. It was there that his lifelong love for the Lord was nurtured—an unwavering devotion that guided every step of his life. Much of his strong work ethic was shaped by the example of his grandfather, and it showed in all he did.

Charlie was employed for the St. Louis Shipyards where he ultimately retired after 29 years of service. A devoted minister and pastor, Charlie faithfully served for a total of seven years at both Davis Crossing and Berryman Assembly of God. He and his beloved wife, Virginia “Jenny” Medley, shared 68 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they often lifted their voices in song during church services—sharing their joy and love for the Lord in harmony. Charlie's faith was not only spoken but lived, most evident in the fact that he read the entire Bible from beginning to end 24 times.

Charlie was known for his kind heart, meticulous nature, and the joy he found in simple pleasures. He was a skilled fabricator and welder by trade, creating custom items for motorcycles and even building CB towers. He had a passion for riding motorcycles, camping, and trot line fishing. But above all, he treasured time spent with his family—his face would light up during visits, and his conversations were full of warmth, wisdom, and wit.

Charlie is survived by his two loving children: Janet Franklin (husband, Alan Dale) and Justin Medley (wife, Kathy); five grandchildren: Kayla (Adam) Weingartner, Matthew (Danielle) Franklin, Lauren (Tyler) Knapp, Colby Franklin, and Kristin (Michael) Rhodes; and eleven cherished great-grandchildren: Tommy and Maggie Weingartner; Gavin, Carter, Addison and Kinsley Franklin; Jordan and Hunter Knapp; and Colson and Wyatt Rhodes. He also leaves behind his brother, Kerry Summers (wife, Debbie), along with many dear nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever hold his memory close.

In addition to his grandparents, Charlie was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Virginia Medley; his mother, Marie (Medley) Summers; his brothers, Floyd Medley, Roger Medley, and Cecil Conaway; and his special aunt, Hallie Gregory (husband, Carl).
